Charlie came home at night, in a field of blood and smoke I can see the anger in his eyes, as he lined up the coke Then he rolled up a dollar bill, as he told me what he'd done Ten innocent people died I was only 14 at the time, I didn't have a clue Of all the meanness in this world, tell me honey, why'd you do? Why'd you do what you, or was it just for fun? Then we left for the statewide From the town of Lincoln, Nebraska Crossed into Wyoming's heaven It was 1958 when we loaded up the guns And soon ten became eleven My older sister had been right when she told me who he was Looked like James Dean when he was in jeans and leather Told me to be careful, but I fell in love She said, "Caril, meet Charles Starkweather." We were caught 'cross the stateline But he wanted to be home one last time So we were thrown back to Nebraska And in Nebraska's where he died I spent 17 years locked up in my cell Moved to Michigan for my parole, and all was well But I still think of him from time to time Oh Charlie, please come back home

Well I'm standing out here on the front porch Watching you walk away As the girls turn off the radio And head back home right through the doorway And as I close my eyes and wait for the morning Stare at the stars up above Your careless moon and the rising sun Feel that little thing called love? Now the morning has come, and the sun still shines Way up over my face I remember the words as your whispered, "Don't forget me even if you're gonna chase." I caressed your cheek and felt a breath Flowing out of your chest It's time to face the truth, we're still in our youth And it's time to put it all to rest. Well hey little girl that no one sees Don't fight in the darkness, look in the breeze Put on your dress and comb off that hay Let's get out of here and run away But as the pistol is cocked, and the trigger is pulled Time stops and freezes by The echo of the gun Makes you wonder why Why did she come and go So fierce but yet so fast I exit as a prisoner as she leaves Make the while and the memories last Oh and for seconds I think I'm dreaming But for nights I won't be sleeping When the mist comes up to cover my soul You'll realize that I'll be gone

There's a place out on the edge of town Where nobody goes, nobody hangs around Except for your ordinary man Who roams the streets every now and then Walk through those gates feeling nothing but pain The devil greets you outside in the rain Through the hall, stare at the light You don't think twice, 'cause it's alright Pay the fee, you get your high And when you're done you wonder Why does it eat your life You're at 53 Cocaine Hill Drive Late at night you come back home With cuts in your arms and a powdered nose Kids are asleep and your wife's in bed She says, "Son of a bitch, where have you been?" Blue-collar job on the railroad After 15 years, you're bound to explode Want it all, want something new Ain't got the power, money, motherfucking will-to-do Pay the fee, you get your high Down-and-out, oh God why? (It) takes your kids, it takes your wife You're at 53 Cocaine Hill Drive Pay the fee, you get your high Down-and-out, oh God why? (It) takes your kids, it takes your wife You're at 53 Cocaine Hill Drive Wrap the belt around the arm Put the needle in the charm Fill your vein up to survive You're at 53 Cocaine Hill Drive

Wet Sunshine 04:23
Through the bars of the cell I can see the sun go round I can tell you when it's dusk I can tell you when it's dawn When I fall asleep on my bed I can see the moon shine I can feel the wind blow Blowin' on the pine I can tell you what is real But I will never tell you what I feel My love for this world Is something unreal Something unbelievable Something with which I can't deal From my experience Life is just a straight line A line that cannot be changed That can't be left behind Since the day we met, we never let each other down I'm living through wet sunshine For us to be apart Is a lovin' lie 'Cause there's no better feelin' Than being so close and tight But what seems to be the real truth Is something unforgettable A way of living that's not right That's unbearable I look straight into your eyes I only see the future filled with lies Since the day we met, we never let each other down I'm living through wet sunshine Now I'mma tell you, baby When you think that you're wrong There is nothing left to say 'Cause everything be gone But in the core of this world Lives what is the factual Some things are better left unsaid Honey that's the actual There are many rules in life Put on your shoes and kiss goodbye Meet me where we cannot run And then our mutual spirits will be gone Since the day we met, we never let each other down I'm living through wet sunshine

Rebekah rode up on the afternoon train, it was sunny Her saltbox house on the coast took her mind off St. Louis Bill was the heir to the Standard Oil name, and money And the town said "How did a middle class divorcée do it?" The wedding was charming, if a little gauche There's only so far new money goes They picked out a home and called it "Holiday House" Their parties were tasteful, if a little loud The doctor had told him to settle down It must have been her fault his heart gave out And they said "There goes the last great American dynasty" Who knows, if she never showed up what could've been There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen She had a marvelous time ruining everything Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set forever Flew in all the Bitch Pack friends from the city Filled the pool with champagne and swam with the big names And blew through the money on the boys and the ballet And losing on card game bets with Dalí And they said "There goes the last great American dynasty" Who knows, if she never showed up, what could've been There goes the most shameless woman this town has ever seen She had a marvelous time ruining everything They say she was seen on occasion Pacing the rocks staring out at the midnight sea And in a feud with her neighbor She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green Fifty years is a long time Holiday House sat quietly on that beach Free of women with madness Their men and bad habits, and then it was bought by me Who knows, if I never showed up what could've been There goes the loudest woman this town has ever seen I had a marvelous time ruining everything I had a marvelous time Ruining everything

Ida's Song 03:41
Can't say I've known you for so long Can't say I've seen your darkest time of day Can't say I would stop you from doing all the wrong Can't find a reason why we had to cross our way But you've seen me cry, and I've seen you shed a tear Lyin' and laughin' 'till the early mornin' time Gained a support, you've been my listening ear Something I've been looking a long time to find Felt so abandoned all my life Carried a weight that cut me like a knife Moved out the country, but it still didn't seem right Until you lit the candle that shone all the light Every night, when you lie there in the bed On my nightstand a Bible and a Rosary Every time that you turn and toss your hair Remind me of the angel that God sent to me That God sent to me So indistinct most of my time Sometimes I felt like a didn't fit the rhyme No one to blame, I walked the line so tight Until you lit the candle that shone all the light Shone all the light

about

From The Town of Lincoln, Nebraska is Marcos Cabanas' third studio work. After taking a year off of music to focus on other endeavors, Cabanas completely dismantles his previous 'Rock & Roll' style to release an album focused purely on songwriting.

In Cabanas' words, “This album is my attempt at conveying social stigmas that unfortunately still live amongst us today. I’ve tried to place a little bit of everyone on the record, so that each and every listener will, in one way or another, be able to see himself reflected in the music. It is my personal collection of songs about love, death, and self-reflection.”
